4 Keys to a Healthy Diet

Simple Advice for Living the Life You Desire

Living a healthy life has many components to it. You should be active, but you also need to get enough rest. While you should tend to your physical health, you also need to address your mental and emotional health. And of course, you ought to eat healthful foods that provide the necessary fuel to get you through the day.

Everything is connected. You feel better when you eat better. You rest better when you’ve had an active day. And you generally make better eating decisions when you’re feeling good.

When it comes to a healthy diet, a lot of books and programs are available. It can get confusing to determine what is essential wisdom and what is a passing fad. Listed below is some general advice from a variety of health organizations. Your doctor or a trained nutritional specialist is a good resource to answer any further questions you may have.

1. More of the good stuff, less of the bad stuff.

Most diets follow this simple logic: eat more of the good, less of the bad. The real challenge is determining what is good and bad.

PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) recommends: “A plant-based diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes is full of fiber, rich in vitamins and minerals, free of cholesterol, and low in calories and saturated fat. Eating a variety of these foods provides all the protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients your body needs. It's important to include a reliable source of vitamin B12 in your diet.”

Saladmaster cookware is made with medical grade 316 stainless steel and titanium, which allows you to cook at lower temperatures without the need to add water. This helps maintain the optimal amount of vitamins and nutrients in your foods, while also protecting the natural flavor of ingredients.

2. Drink water.

We all know how important water is, but some of us opt for sugary drinks instead.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Water is a crucial nutrient that often gets overlooked. Sixty percent of your body weight is made up of water and every system in your body requires it to function properly.”

Thirst can be misinterpreted as hunger. Drinking a glass of water before eating can satisfy your thirst and keep you from eating unnecessarily.

3. Don’t eat until you’re full.

Eat until you're almost full. According to Psychology Today, “
It takes twenty minutes for your hunger and satiety mechanism to send the signal to the rest of your body that you’re full. Slow down and allow your body to let you know it’s satisfied.”

Sometimes we eat until we feel like we’re bursting at the seams. This is not a healthy way to approach our mealtime.

4. Take control!

Much of a healthy diet comes down to taking control of what you eat. For instance, when you rely on fast food restaurants again and again, you are handing over your diet decisions to the drive-thru. When you focus on preparing meals at home, you can be more mindful about what you eat and control your portions. At Saladmaster, our Dealers want to empower people to eat better. Cooking more often at home is one what to accomplish that.
