A Heartfelt Ode to Mexican Food

Savory Foods with a Kick and Some Queso

At Saladmaster, we love celebrating food from all over the world. (Check out our blog on Filipino food favorites.) If it’s something you enjoy cooking in your kitchen, we want to know about it! This week, we wanted to focus on Mexican food and the amazing variety of dishes available. Just as Mexico is a blend of Spanish and indigenous cultures, the food mirrors that diversity—truly setting it apart from other cuisines.

What makes Mexican food so amazing?

1. Spices and ingredients

Traditional Mexican food is never dull, especially when you consider some of the most commonly used ingredients, such as garlic, onions, cilantro, oregano, cumin and chilies. Cinnamon, cloves and cocoa are also used in fresh ways, different from other cooking methods. Mexican food will leverage a variety of vegetables and proteins—fish, beef, chicken, pork, or a variety of beans. It gives the food a hardy base that can be expanded and experimented with.

2. Corn and more corn

Corn can be found in almost any Mexican dish. Corn tortillas are especially prevalent; it’s the building block of Mexican standards
—taquitos, tostadas, quesadillas, enchiladas, and flautas. This typically bland ingredient is highly adaptable—transformed into something incredibly tasty. It can be light or filling, subtle or strong.

3. Savory and sweet

Any cuisine that boasts dishes with cheese, guacamole (which can easily be made with your Saladmaster Food Processor), a wide range of meats, beans, vegetables, and even a few fruits mixed in is one that has a wide range of flavors, featuring a delicious range of savory and sweet.

4. Lots of Variations

You can find amazing Mexican food at the nicest restaurants, from a vendor on the street, or make it yourself in the kitchen. Some delicious Mexican dishes from our Saladmaster recipe site:
