Saladmaster does the Diabetes UK London Bridges Challenge

by Debbie Harrington, Senior Marketing Manager, Saladmaster UK

On Sunday 29th September thousands of Diabetes UK supporters came out in force to take part in the London Bridges Challenge.

The London Bridges Challenge is one of Diabetes UK flagship events and sees supporters raising funds by walking a 10 mile route that crisscrosses the Thames across 12 of the city’s iconic bridges and Saladmaster, who recently announced the partnership with Diabetes UK were proud sponsors of the event.

A team from across the Saladmaster family took part in the walk to show support for the event and the partnership, there were also Saladmaster volunteers waiting at the finish line to cheer on and welcome those completing the challenge and handing out medals.

The walk started in Battersea Park and the first bridge was the Albert Bridge. Other bridges on the route included the Vauxhall Bridge, Westminster Bridge and Millennium Bridge, with the final one being the iconic Tower Bridge where right next to it was the Challenge’s ‘end village’ in Potters Field Park.

The walk itself took around 3 hours to complete and the route had lots of stopping points along the way for if people wanted to enjoy a rest, take in some of the sights or sample some of the street food available in London.

The atmosphere was brilliant with everyone in high spirits! There were so many groups of people taking part in the walk there was always someone in one the Diabetes UK blue T-shirts, so no one ever felt alone.

In the run up to the event it was becoming clearer that the weather might not be kind (even though on the day it didn’t turn out to be too bad!) but everyone was armed with waterproofs and umbrellas, and one thing was for sure no one was going to let a little bit of rain dampen their spirits!

As with any event of this type there was just an overall feeling that everyone was doing something amazing to help make a difference, and everyone from Saladmaster was VERY PROUD to support Diabetes UK, and ultimately help raise awareness of Type 2 diabetes.

Saladmaster would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the team at Diabetes UK that worked so hard to create such a wonderful event, and we are looking forward to making it even bigger next year!

Let's Do Lunch

"The old tradition is breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper, and I think that very much rings true today. Having a good breakfast refuels you after the overnight fast and provides you with energy to concentrate and improves your mood. For lunch time, if you are having a heavier meal, you have the afternoon to use all those calories."
