Our Saladmaster Book List for 2018

Wonderful Reads that Might Change Your Life

At Saladmaster, our tagline is “We Change Life.” You’ll see this phrase almost everywhere associated with our brand—from our website, to our aprons and everything in between. We take this precept seriously. We seek to empower people and enable them to achieve incredible life transformations.

As summer wraps up and the back to school bustle begins, we’d like to share a few books that also seek to change life. It’s amazing how the right message at the right time can make a profound difference, and sometimes that wisdom on the page will stick with us for a lifetime.

These books are some we enjoyed. Some were written recently, and others have been on the market for a while. Results may vary. If you get into the book and find that it’s not for you, put it aside and pick up something else. We won’t tell the author.

Books on Eating Well

There are a lot of food trends out there. Some burst onto the scene with a lot of buzz, but fade over time. Others just make sense. These books suggest practical approaches and come from a wide range of perspectives. For any drastic diet changes, we’d recommend consulting a health care professional first.

Practical Paleo: A Customized Approach to Health and a Whole-Foods Lifestyle

In this popular book by Diane Sanfilippo, she makes a case for avoiding processed foods and a few other surprising items to improve how you look and feel. This 480-page book is a beast — full of information, meal plans, and recipes. If you like Sanfilippo’s message, she has several other books as well as a weekly podcast “Balanced Bites” for your morning commute.

In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto

At Saladmaster, we love Michael Pollan. His book was published almost ten years ago, but it still rings true. Most of what we’re consuming today is longer the product of nature, but of food science. So, what's the answer? His approach is summed up in seven simple words: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

Simply Keto: A Practical Approach to Health & Weight Loss with 100+ Easy Low-Carb Recipes

If you’ve wondered what “Keto” is all about, this book by Suzanne Ryan might be a good place to start. Her writing is friendly and approachable — and her story is profound. She lost over 120 lbs and turned her life around with the tips, encouragements, and recipes she provides in this book.

Wired to Eat: Turn Off Cravings, Rewire Your Appetite for Weight Loss, and Determine the Foods That Work for You

Robb Wolf makes a lot of sense. He’s a former research biochemist and a leading nutrition expert. In this book, Wolf explains how our genetics are working against us in the modern food world. But there is hope to rewire our appetites.

Books on Fitness

In such a busy world, how do we find the time to exercise? We know we should. We know it’ll make us feel better. And yet, sometimes it’s just easier to binge watch another show on Netflix. These three books might give you the motivation you need.

The Fitness Mindset: Eat for Energy, Train for Tension, Manage Your Mindset, Reap the Results

This book by Brian Keane combines a little bit of everything, from workout guidance to food recommendations to mental strategies to minimize stress and get into great shape.

No Sweat: How the Simple Science of Motivation Can Bring You a Lifetime of Fitness

If your issue is motivation, this book is the one for you. Behavior expert Michelle Segar moves beyond good intentions to actually show the reader how to change your mindset and motivation in order to achieve lasting fitness. This book seeks to broaden the definition of exercise, help people find pleasure in physical activity, and discover realistic ways to fit exercise into their lives.

ROAR: How to Match your Food and Fitness to Your Unique Female Physiology for Optimum Performance, Great Health, and a Strong, Lean Body for Life

This book is based around one premise: Women are not small men. Women need to stop eating and training like one. Since most nutrition products and training plans are designed for men, many women struggle to reach their potential. This book by Stacy T. Sims focuses on fitness and nutrition designed for women.

Books for Your Mind

Any meaningful change in our lives begins with changing how we think and how we see the world. Being mindful is essential to personal success. Self help and motivational books are everywhere, but these three stand out.

Born to Win: Find Your Success

No Saladmaster book list would be complete without our own Zig Ziglar. At one time, Ziglar was the number one cookware salesman in America for Saladmaster. We’re proud to claim him as a member of the Saladmaster family. This book focuses on helping you become a complete person, develop a winning attitude, and building strong relationships.

Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies about Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be

In this book, Rachel Hollis exposes the twenty lies and misconceptions that too often hold us back from living joyfully and productively, lies we’ve told ourselves so often we don’t even hear them anymore. This book is funny at times and always honest. Hollis is currently on tour, taking her message across the country.

Laws of Success: 12 Laws That Turn Dreams Into Reality

Les Brown is a world-renowned motivational speaker. He has spent his life studying the secrets to success. This book is packed with his wealth of experience. It focuses on empowering people to achieve more and create the life of their dreams.

Books for Fun

Sometimes, you just want to read something to make you smile. These three books contain great insights, but the humor is what makes it all worth reading.

Paddle Your Own Canoe: One Man’s Fundamentals for Delicious Living

Humorist, actor, and woodworker Nick Offerman shares life lessons, amusing anecdotes, and the occasional rant. This book feels like something transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson would have written, if Emerson were a modern day humorist, actor, and woodworker.

I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons

Kevin Hart is the biggest comedian in the world right now. He has achieved great success through hard work, determination, and talent. This book explores his personal journey to how he became the person he is today.

Natural Disaster: I Cover Them. I am One.

As ABC News chief meteorologist, Ginger Zee’s memoir is amusingly candid and inspiring. This book is about natural disasters, both in meteorology and in life. It’s a wonderful book for all the mistake makers who have learned to forgive others and themselves.
