Our Saladmaster Book List for 2019

Wonderful Reads that Might Change Your Life

We are happy to share with you our second annual list of “Life Changing” books. As the summer continues, we hope these books can keep you engaged and entertained while on vacation, sitting poolside, or simply taking it easy on the couch.

The right book with the right message can be transformational. These books are some that we enjoyed. Results may vary. If you get into the book and find that it’s not for you, put it aside and pick up something else. We won’t tell the author.

Books on Eating Well

Everyone has their own philosophy and approach to eating well. These two recipe books are worth looking into—or visit our recipe site to see a wide variety of menu options for free! For any drastic diet changes, we’d recommend consulting a health care professional first.

Healthyish: A Cookbook with Seriously Satisfying, Truly Simple, Good-For-You (but not too Good-For-You) Recipes for Real Life

Destined to be an everyday kitchen essential, filled with splattered and dog-eared pages, Healthyish is a call for simple ingredients, food that makes us feel good, quick prep, and even quicker cleanup, so we all can enjoy what’s most important at the end of a long day: getting back to the couch.

Cali'flour Kitchen: 125 Cauliflower-Based Recipes for the Carbs You Crave

Cali’Flour Kitchen is designed for people across the dietary spectrum, providing perfect, guilt-free recipes for every carb-heavy craving, whether you’re eating vegan, dairy-free, keto, paleo, or a plant-based diet.

Books on Fitness

Going to the gym is great, but we think it’s also helpful to have a fitness plan in place. These two books will give you some direction on achieving the results you want.

Fitness Confidential

America's Angriest Trainer, Vinnie Tortorich, exposes the nasty underbelly of the fitness industry while getting you into the best shape of your life. For over 20 years, Vinnie has been Hollywood's go-to guy for celebrities and athletes looking to get fit fast. Now, in this hilarious memoir, he holds nothing back.

15 Minutes to Fitness: Dr. Ben's SMaRT Plan for Diet and Total Health

Everybody wants to lose weight (excess fat). In fact, almost everyone has BUT almost no one maintains fat loss (weight creeps back more than 80% of the time). 15 Minutes to Fitness addresses this issue and provides safe, successful solutions.

Books for Your Mind

These books were the easiest one to select for this year. Michael McQueen was a keynote speaker at this year’s DSA Conference—and has been involved with direct selling for many years. Atomic Habits comes highly recommended by McQueen. We also blogged about it earlier this year.

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones

If you're having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn't you. The problem is your system. Bad habits repeat themselves again and again not because you don't want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change.

Read our blog post on Starting the Year with Atomic Habits.

How to Prepare Now for What's Next: A guide to thriving in an age of disruption

Thriving businesses on top of their game are targets for disruption. But for savvy business owners and managers who understand the coming changes, the time to future-proof their successful companies is now.

Books for Fun

We’ve added our first novel to the list! Fitness Junkie is a fun story that many people can relate to. Cat and Nat’s Mom Truths is a fun book with some helpful tips for new mothers.

Fitness Junkie: A Novel

A hilarious tale about one woman's attempt to do whatever it takes — juicing, clay diets, private island wellness retreats — to lose 30 lbs.

Cat and Nat's Mom Truths: Embarrassing Stories and Brutally Honest Advice on the Extremely Real Struggle of Motherhood

Hilarious best friends Cat and Nat created a massive online community of moms by sharing their ultra-real dispatches from the mom trenches. Mixing memoir, humor, and advice, Cat and Nat tell never-before-told stories about the stress, guilt, joy, and laundry (oh the laundry!) of being a mom in their first book.

Books for Children

We’ve added a new category to our Saladmaster book list, because kids need something to read too! The first selection is a graphic novel (appropriate for ages 8 and up) by the amazingly talented Raina Telgemeier, author of Smile. The second is an adorable picture book you can read to your youngest children before nighttime.

Guts

Raina wakes up one night with a terrible upset stomach. Her mom has one, too, so it's probably just a bug. Raina eventually returns to school, where she's dealing with the usual highs and lows: friends, not-friends, and classmates who think the school year is just one long gross-out session. It soon becomes clear that Raina's tummy trouble isn't going away... and it coincides with her worries about food, school, and changing friendships. What's going on? (This book is not available yet, but it's worth the wait!)

You Are My Happy

As mama bear and her cub cuddle together before closing their eyes for a good night’s sleep, they reflect on the everyday wonders of life that make them happy. Inspired by her own nighttime routine with her daughter, Haley Joy, Kotb creates another beautiful treasure for parents and children to enjoy together. With charming and lush illustrations from bestselling artist Suzie Mason, this soothing yet playful lullaby explores the simple joy of taking a moment to be grateful.
