Saladmaster and Diabetes UK
Working together to raise awareness of Type 2 diabetes

Saladmaster and Diabetes UK are working together to help raise awareness of Type 2 diabetes. We know that diabetes is potentially the most devastating and fastest growing health crisis of our time with over 12.3 million people in the UK at increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Together we’re aiming to help 150,000 people across the UK know more about Type 2 diabetes and the risk of developing it. We’ll also encourage people to eat better, live better and reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

There are risk factors of Type 2 diabetes that you can’t change:

Your age. You are more at risk if you’re white and over 40 or over 25 if you are African-Caribbean, Black African or South Asian.
Family History. You’re 2-6 times more likely to get Type 2 diabetes if you have a parent, brother or sister or child with diabetes.
Ethnicity. Type 2 diabetes is 2-4 times more likely in people of South Asian, Black African or African-Caribbean descent.

But there are risk factors that you can change:

Blood pressure. You’re more at risk if you’ve ever had high blood pressure.
Weight. You’re more at risk if you’re overweight.
Waist. You’re at risk if your waist circumference is wide around the middle.

People can reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by:

• Eating better;
• Moving more;
• Managing weight.

Diabetes UK provides lots of information and resources to help people understand their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. We also tell people what they can do to reduce their risk of developing the condition.

World Diabetes Day falls on 14 November every year. It's a day when millions of people around the world come together to raise awareness of diabetes. It takes place every year on 14th November to commemorate the birth date of Sir Frederick Banting, the co-discoverer of insulin.
